Landkey Village

We will be holding a service of Remembrance at 10:00 am in Landkey village hall on 10th November to recall the sacrifice paid by our armed forces in defending our nation.

The service will be followed by the Act of Remembrance at the war memorial, including two minutes' silence at 11:00 am. All are welcome to attend.

It was good to find the Landkey Show well supported when the day of its annual opening to the residents of the village arrived on 27th July 2019.

Opened by Chair of Landkey Parish Council, Richard Halliday, at 2pm, it included many attractions for visitors. Foremost among these was the ever-popular Dog Agility display which featured dogs negotiating a range of challenges including ramps, pipes, jumps and slalom poles.

The Millennium Green Trust stall offered lanyards for dog walkers, postcards and a treasure map while, nearby, a tent offering thoughtfully arranged second-hand books attracted a great deal of interest.

Volunteers in the school's canteen were kept busy making cream teas for visitors who could inspect the entries to the flower, fruit and vegetable competitions while they were there.

Outside, a colourful display of vintage tractors, including Nuffields, Massey Fergusons and Internationals, provided a talking point for many people.

The weather proved ideal, being sunny and warm but not too hot, enabling the many other attractions, including ice creams, burgers and music to be enjoyed.  

The Garden Party held at The Old Manor, Landkey, on 29th June 2019 was a very enjoyable occasion. The weather was perfect - warm, dry and not too hot and this encouraged maybe as many as 120 visitors to come along and take part in the many attractions and to purchase tea-and-scones, drinks or hot dogs.

"Soak the Vicar" proved very popular, with people, especially children, queuing to throw wet sponges at a man acting as a vicar (Revd Shaun could not attend, unfortunately).

Over £1000 was raised for church funds and we express our thanks to all who came along and supported us as well as to all who helped, not forgetting Mike and Josie Foster whose garden was put at our disposal for the afternoon!

All are welcome to take part in a summer-themed garden party this coming Saturday, 29th June.

It will be held at The Old Manor, Landkey (behind the church) from 2pm (until around 4:30pm), and entertainments will include the popular "Soak the Vicar" attraction as well as stalls offering garden plants, cream teas, raffles and more.

Please come along and help us to make this an enjoyable afternoon whilst raising funds for St Paul's Church.

On behalf of St Paul's Church, I would like to thank all who donated to the Christian Aid appeal during the week of 12th-18th May 2019.

We have a limited number of volunteers available for door-to-door collections meaning thay we weren't able to visit as many Landkey residents as we would have liked. However, we are grateful to those who donated and a total of £220.45 was raised. This will be put to good use, especially helping expectant mothers in western Africa to receive appropriate maternity care.
